Hibist Bedasso graduated Magna cum Laude in Public Health
Science from the University of Maryland. She was a College Park Scholar and
enrolled in the two-year Justice and Legal Thought Program where she was
able to inquire and learn the ethical and historical foundations of a justice
society through interdisciplinary courses and service-learning. On-campus, she
served as a Cabinet member of the Black Honors Caucus, the fundraising
committee for Charles R. Drew Pre-Health Society, and participated in many
other organizations and honor societies. At the University of Maryland, she
spent her last semester conducting research and wrote an intensive research
report on the Maternal Mortality crisis in the United States.
Throughout her college career, she worked for Montgomery County’s HR
department where she was able to do research on county-wide issues regarding
health, demographics, education, etc and create documents for public use as
well as assist in making documents ADA accessible. She assisted with daily
operations at vaccine clinics across Montgomery county and worked at
medical clinics as a clinical assistant where she was able to triage patients,
make appointments, generate revenue, and verify insurance claims. In the
summer, she sets time aside to volunteer at Washington Adventist Hospital to
observe doctors, and most importantly spend precious time with the wonderful
patients. Aside from that she worked at a non-profit after-school program that
gives children the opportunity to expand their academic/recreational horizons
despite their economic status. In the future, she aspires to open her own
non-profit health organization in order to alleviate health inequities amongst
low-income and minority individuals. Hibist hopes to expand her knowledge
on project management and business development and contribute her skills at
GTMRx institute.
